Ann Torregrossa to be Awarded Inaugural G. Fred DiBona Jr. Excellence in Healthcare Award

Ann S. Torregrossa, director of Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell’s Office of Health Care Reform, has been named as the recipient of the inaugural G. Fred DiBona Jr. Excellence in Healthcare Award presented by the St. Catherine Labouré Medical Clinic in Philadelphia.

Torregrossa has served as Director of Pennsylvania Governor's Office of Health Care Reform (GOHCR) since January, 2009. Prior to that she served as the Senior Policy Manager for the office. Her duties include overseeing and coordinating the administration’s continued commitment to being a national leader in health care reform.

Most recently her work has been focused on developing the Prescription for Pennsylvania, the Administration’s plan to provide affordable, accessible, quality health care coverage and long term living services to all Pennsylvania.

Prior to entering the Rendell Adminstration, Torregrossa, co-founded the Pennsylvania Health Law Project (PHLP), and served as its first Executive Director.

PHLP, a member of the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, is a nationally recognized expert and consultant on access to health care for low-income consumers, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. For more than two decades, PHLP has engaged in direct advocacy on behalf of individual consumers while working on the kinds of health policy changes that promise the most to the Pennsylvanians in greatest need.

Torregrossa will be honored at what the clinic is calling a Neighborhood Healthcare Gala, celebrating 10 years of providing compassionate and quality health care to the uninsured of Philadelphia. The Gala will be held on April 24, 2010 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Center City Philadelphia.
