SafeLink Wireless is a govenment-supported program that provides free cell phone and minutes to eligible low-income individuals. Safelink Wireless is available in Pennsylvania.

About Safelink Wireless

SafeLink Wireless was created by TracFone Wireless, Inc. when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the company to offer Lifeline - a public assistance program that was established to ensure that telephone service is available and affordable for low-income subscribers. Prior to this time, the Lifeline program was only available to reduce eligible low-income consumers' monthly charges for basic landline telephone service.

SafeLink Wireless applies the Universal Service Fund subsidy, provided through the Lifeline program, to create an allotment of free airtime minutes and TracFone provides the wireless handset at the company’s expense. Instead of receiving a subsidized monthly telephone bill for Lifeline land line service, SafeLink converts the total amount of discounted service into minutes each month for one year. 

You receive free cellular service, a free SafeLink Wireless cell phone and the assurance that you will get no bills and no contracts EVER!

The service provides a 68-minute plan on a monthly basis at NO COST to the customer. You are also provided with a FREE SafeLink Wireless phone at no cost.

Additional minutes may be added to your SafeLink Wireless phone by purchasing TracFone Airtime Cards which are available from many local retailers.

Eligibility

You are eligible if you receive benefits from one of the following programs:

  • Federal Public Housing Assistance / Section 8
  • Food Stamps
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • National School Lunch (free program only)
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Medicaid
  • State Blind Pension

A form must be completed to indicate that you participate in one of these programs.

Total Household Income

You may also be eligible if your Total Household Income is at or under 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Submitted documentation will be required as proof of your total household income.
